Born at Greenwich, N.Y., 1806; began studying law at Hamilton, N.Y., 1823; came to Detroit , in 1826; taught school here & in Pontiac; was admitted to bar, 1828, then the only lawyer in Macomb County.; Secretary of State of Michigan, 1842; later retired from public service; prominent mason from 1847; died in Detroit, 1884.
